Mitch Gaylord: From Olympic Champion to Retirement Specialist
In 1984, I had the honor of leading the United States Olympic gymnastics team to a historic Gold Medal victory, thrilling audiences around the world. As the first American gymnast to score a Perfect “10,” I also secured a Silver medal for Vaulting and two Bronze medals for Rings and Parallel Bars. Ranked number one in the U.S. in 1983 and 1984, I invented two skills that carry my name—the Gaylord Flip and the Gaylord Two—still celebrated as among the most challenging feats in gymnastics.
After the Olympics, I was appointed to the President’s Council for Physical Fitness by President Reagan and was honored to serve again under President George H.W. Bush. This role allowed me to engage in numerous speaking engagements and endorsements across the country. In 1986, I made my acting debut in Columbia Pictures’ “American Anthem” and appeared in commercials for brands like Diet Coke, Nike, and Levi’s.
For over 30 years, I’ve been dedicated to motivating and inspiring audiences worldwide, from Fortune 500 companies to students. My personal mission is to encourage others to achieve greatness, a passion recognized through my inductions into UCLA’s Hall of Fame in 1995 and the US Olympic Hall of Fame in 2006, and more recently the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
Currently, I’m channeling my Olympic experience into my role as a Retirement Specialist for Reverse Mortgages at Fairway Independent Mortgage Company. Just as I applied a Gold Medal approach in gymnastics, I’m committed to helping seniors secure a gold medal retirement, guiding them through their financial journey with care and expertise. I live in Sarasota, Florida, with my wonderful wife, Valentina, and am a dedicated husband and father to our children
