At 75, Barb and Arnie Jaquith are proof that vitality doesn’t fade with age—it simply evolves into something richer. Both grew up in small New Hampshire college towns and even attended the same high school, never imagining that life would eventually bring them together for a second, joy-filled marriage. Today, they continue to inspire with their warmth, curiosity, and intentional way of living.
A New Home, A Deeper Connection
Recently, the Jaquiths embraced another meaningful transition—purchasing a new home closer to family using a HECM for Purchase. For them, it wasn’t just a smart financial step; it was an act of connection. Being near the people they love allows them to stay fully engaged in community and family life, which they value deeply.
Art as Expression and Legacy
Barb’s artistic world is expansive and expressive. Working with pastels, acrylics, watercolor, pens, and oils, out of her home studio called Lovering Studio, she creates pieces that live at the intersection of literature and visual art. Her interdisciplinary degree in Creative Expression in Society reflects a lifelong commitment to exploring how stories shape us. She comes from a line of artists, and that legacy shows up not only in her technique but in her perspective. She often says that creating art “orders her world—it gets the inside out,” a beautiful reflection of how her work helps her make sense of life’s deeper layers.
Art That Moves the Soul
One of her recent works, Turbulent Ocean, now hangs in my own space. Like Barb herself, it carries movement, emotion, and thoughtful intensity. Art that doesn’t just decorate a wall but speaks. As a fellow artist, I loved the piece immediately and was thrilled to be able to purchase it.
Living with Intention: Radical Neighboring
Both Barb and Arnie also shared with me a concept that seems to embody their approach to life: radical neighboring. To them, community isn’t accidental, it’s intentional. They make a point of getting to know the people around them, staying attuned to their needs, and offering support with generosity and authenticity. It’s a philosophy grounded in kindness, presence, and genuine care. I was inspired to be a better neighbor.
